The Social Experience Model helps us understand how wellbeing is shaped by the systems, communities, relationships and experiences that influence our lives every day.
It encourages us to look beyond the individual and recognise the role we all play in creating the conditions that support connection, belonging and wellbeing.
This understanding sits at the heart of Turn to Me's work and guides our approach to mental health promotion, suicide prevention and creating Communities of Care.

People need people.
We don't experience life in isolation. We experience it through the people, relationships and communities around us.
A young person is part of a family, a school, a friendship group and often a sporting club. An employee is part of a team, a workplace, a family and a wider community. These environments shape how people see themselves, how they relate to others and whether they feel connected, valued and supported.
That means some of our greatest opportunities for prevention don't sit with the individual alone. They sit within the communities around them.
At Turn to Me, we believe communities can be one of our greatest sources of connection, support and strength. Because creating communities where people feel safe, valued and connected isn't the responsibility of one person or one service ā€” it's something we all have a role in creating.
